Hibernian have signed former Dundee United winger Ryan Gauld on loan from Sporting Lisbon until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old joined up with his new team-mates in Dubai this week for their winter training camp, but was unable to take part in today's 1-0 friendly win over Al Wasl as the paperwork was not completed in time.

Gauld has been playing in Lisbon with Sporting since 2014, when he joined in a £3m deal from Dundee United.

"I've been aware that Hibs were keen to get me in the door as soon as possible and that made me feel really wanted," Gauld said.

"It played a big part in my decision.

"The manager told me to come here and show everyone what I can do, to try to add quality to the team."

Neil Lennon says Hibernian need to bring in quality in the January transfer window, and admitted some of his players are not working hard enough and 'drifting along'.

Since moving to Portugal at the age of 16, Gauld has struggled to break into the Sporting line-up and has spent much of his time out on loan.
