Dundee United have signed Belgian defender Frederic Frans on a two-year deal.

The centre-back already has experience of Scottish football, following a spell at Partick Thistle between 2014 and 2016, scoring in a 3-3 draw at Tannadice on May 10 2016.

Having played for Belgium at various youth levels, Frans has played most of his football at Belgian outfit Lierse SK, who he first joined at the age of five.

The 29-year-old came through the ranks into the first team, captaining his side more than 75 times, before moving abroad at the age of 25.

In 2016, he opted to return to his hometown club where he made a further 65 appearances in two seasons.

"I am thrilled to be back in Scotland and to sign for Dundee United," said Frans.

"It is a beautiful club with an amazing fan base and I am fully focused on helping us achieve our ambitions".

United manager Csaba Laszlo was also delighted to be welcoming Frans to Tannadice.

"I was very keen to bring Freddy to the club this summer and I am delighted to have secured his services," he said.

"He brings us experience, strength and height. He can play with both feet, is good in the air and a great person to have in the dressing room."

The fixtures for the new Scottish season were released on Friday and Dundee United will play Dunfermline at home in their opening Scottish Championship game.
