Paul McMullan’s spot-kick gave Dundee United victory at Inverness Caledonian Thistle on the opening day of the Scottish Championship season.
Inverness, who were relegated from the Premiership last term, fell behind to a 13th-minute penalty which was dispatched by McMullan - a summer signing from Championship rivals Dunfermline.
Nathan Austin gave Falkirk an early lead at St Mirren before the home side rallied to secure a 3-1 win at the Paisley Stadium. Stelios Demetriou brought St Mirren level before the break, with the Buddies sealing victory courtesy of second-half strikes from Cammy Smith and Gavin Reilly.
Queen of the South made a statement on the opening day with a thumping 4-1 home win over Brechin City.
Derek Lyle scored twice and John Rankin added a third before City pulled a goal back through Chris O'Neil in the 75th minute. Lyndon Dykes struck three minutes later as Queen of the South ran out emphatic winners.
Dunfermline had goalkeeper Sean Murdoch to thank after earning a point away at Livingston.
Scott Pittman put the home side in front after half an hour before a Kallum Higginbotham second-half penalty made it 1-1. Livingston had a penalty of their own with five minutes left to play but a stunning save from Murdoch ensured honours finished even at the Almondvale Stadium.
Morton's visit to Dumbarton finished goalless in the day's only other Scottish Championship fixture.
