Jack Ross has turned down a move to Barnsley in favour of staying on as St Mirren manager.
The Scottish Championship leaders gave the Tykes permission to speak to Ross on Tuesday night with a view to him succeeding Paul Heckingbottom, who left to join Leeds last week, at Oakwell.
But Ross has opted to stay with the Buddies, 14 points clear at the top of the table, as they close in on promotion to the Premiership.
St Mirren chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick told the club's website: "We are delighted with the news that Jack remains committed to St Mirren.
"Jack has built something special here and has really pulled everyone together in the right direction.
"It is excellent news for the club and all focus is on trying to meet our targets for the season."
Ross arrived at St Mirren in 2016 having begun his managerial career with Alloa Athletic.
Barnsley's plan was to create a shortlist for their vacant manager's job and were hoping to make an appointment before the game against Burton on February 20.
Heckingbottom left Barnsley to join Leeds on an 18-month deal, just one week after signing a new contract at Oakwell.
Paul Harsley will take caretaker charge of the Tykes for Saturday's South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday.
