Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho will not be offered a new deal at Monaco.

The 38-year-old helped Portugal end their wait for international silverware this summer by winning Euro 2016 but has been told by the Ligue 1 club that he is surplus to their requirements.

A statement on the club's website read: "Out of contract since June 30, Ricardo Carvalho will not continue this season in the Monaco shirt."

Vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said: "When he arrived, people doubted his ability to get back to the top level.

"Ricardo has justified the confidence of AS Monaco by showing a little more, the great professional he is, and contributing to the sporting results of the team.
