Midfielder's agent claims new deal is imminent

Mathieu Valbuena is set to extend his stay with Marseille, according to the player's agent. The 23-year-old midfielder only penned a fresh contract extension last October. However, with the player happy at Stade Velodrome, the French giants are keen to reward him with an improved deal. Valbuena has enjoyed a fine season to date, and scored the winning goal in October's UEFA Champions League victory at Liverpool. And the Frenchman's agent, Christophe Hutteau, has claimed that he will put pen-to-paper in the coming days.

Indebted

"As he feels fine at Marseille, he believes he is indebted to the club," Hutteau told L'Equipe. "As the officials have always followed their words with actions, there is no reason for him not to prolong (his stay). "Everything is gathered to be sorted out very quickly, in the next coming days. "Mathieu matches the l'OM values; fighting spirit and fierce determination."
