Newly-promoted Nimes continued their fairytale start to the Ligue 1 season by stunning Marseille 3-1 at the Stade des Costieres on Sunday.

It was the first time they have beaten the French giants since 1979 and they won with something to spare near the south coast of the country, a week after beating Angers 4-3.

Denis Bouanga opened the scoring in the 35th minute by taking advantage of some lacklustre defending to produce a brilliant finish.

Florian Thauvin chipped home to level the score shortly after half-time but the fightback ended there as Sada Thioub showed composure after good work from Bouanga to restore the lead.

And the killer blow was struck by Renaud Ripart with four minutes remaining, the 25-year-old forward showing strength to finish.

Francois Kamano appeared to have rescued Bordeaux in their trip to Toulouse after cancelling out Aaron Leya Iseka's earlier strike, but with 23 minutes remaining, Mathieu Dossevi delivered the winner in a 2-1 victory for the home side.

St Etienne overcame the dismissal of Serbian Neven Subotic to secure a 1-1 draw with Strasbourg.

Subotic was sent off after 18 minutes for bringing down Nuno da Costa and when Anthony Goncalves put the hosts into the lead the outcome looked assured.

But substitute Makhtar Gueye stepped off the bench to score with two minutes remaining, claiming an unlikely point.
