Marseille general manager Pape Diouf has explained the reasoning behind the departure of Bixente Lizarazu.
The former France international has clinched a surprise return to Bayern Munich on a six-month contract.
The 35-year-old was out in the cold under Philippe Troussier and explained to l'OM's major shareholder Robert Louis-Dreyfus that he was not prepared to remain at Stade Velodrome while the ex-Japan coach was in charge.
After a call to Bayern's senior officials, a move back to Bavaria was set up in only two days.
"At first, a kind of misunderstanding occurred between Troussier and Lizarazu," said Diouf.
"Then it was very difficult to get both men around a table.
"Troussier has never questioned Liza's qualities and Liza never questioned the coach Troussier.
"There was just an incompatibility.
"The fact Liza leaves in the middle of the season can't be interpreted as a success either for him or for us."
