Edinson Cavani became Paris Saint-Germain's record goalscorer as the Ligue 1 leaders beat Montpellier 4-0 on Saturday.

Cavani scored his 157th goal for the French outfit to pull clear of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the club's scoring charts. Neymar then hit a double either side of Angel Di Maria's third as PSG moved 11 points clear at the top of the table.

Cavani was booked by referee Frank Schneider for ripping his shirt off to celebrate after the Uruguayan poked home Adrien Rabiot's cross in the 11th minute.

After the match, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi congratulated Cavani on the pitch and presented the striker with a trophy to commemorate his achievement.

Neymar had made it two from the penalty spot before Di Maria slotted home after a cutback from Thomas Meunier. Cavani then laid on Neymar to tap in a fourth late on.

The victory extends PSG's advantage over second-placed Lyon, who travel to struggling Bordeaux on Sunday.

Nice missed the opportunity to move six points clear of Montpellier as they slipped to a surprise 2-1 defeat away to bottom side Metz.

Toulouse stay in the relegation zone but their chances of survival enjoyed a boost as they edged to a 1-0 win over fellow basement battlers Troyes. Former Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo's goal after 11 minutes was enough for all three points.

Angers beat Amiens by the same scoreline in another survival clash thanks to another early strike from Pierrick Capelle while St Etienne prevailed 2-1 over Caen.
