Antoine Griezmann used the speculation surrounding his future in the summer to secure a more lucrative deal at Atletico Madrid, according to team-mate Filipe Luis.
The France international hinted in the summer that he was open to a possible move to Manchester United before eventually pledging his future to Atletico by signing a new four-year deal.
However, Luis believes the 26-year-old forward was always happy to stay in Madrid and claims he was only talking up a potential move away from the La Liga club in order to secure a higher wage.
"[Griezmann] is a kid who speaks very clearly," Luis told El Mundo.
"Often players talk when they feel they are not being valued as they deserve. Then they get more attention. He would have had many offers from many teams.
"A player of his size wants to be up with the biggest in terms of contract and value. And that is fair - as Griezmann is doing great here.
"In the end, for all the talk about other clubs, he always wanted to stay here and he is still here, happy and liking it."
