Nine-man Catania unable to pull off a shock
Roma advanced to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia after a battling 1-0 success at home over nine-man Catania.
The visitors sought to hang on at Stadio Olimpico after having two men sent off, but were knocked out by Daniele De Rossi's 74th-minute goal.
De Rossi had come close to opening the scoring just before half-time, while John Arne Riise's powerful effort had earlier been kept out by Catania goalkeeper Andrea Campagnolo.
Catania had Giuseppe Bellusci sent off for a second bookable offence on 58 minutes and he was joined for an early bath by team-mate Blazej Augustyn on 72 minutes.
Just two minutes later, Roma struck decisively as influential midfielder De Rossi smashed home a shot from the edge of the area.
Claudio Ranieri's side will now meet either AC Milan or Udinese, who square up on Wednesday, in the last four.
