INTER CRUISE DESPITE RONALDO SETBACK

NICOLA VENTOLA'S brace helped Internazionale to a comfortable 3-0 away victory in Brasov, matching the score they beat the Romanian side by at the San Siro a week ago - but their joy was tempered as star striker Ronaldo suffered a setback in his return to first team action.

The 23-year-old striker put the Serie A side in front after 12 minutes and then added another 11 minutes from time.

Summer signing from rivals Milan, Guly, sandwiched Ventola's strikes with one of his own six minutes before the break.

Inter did receive some bad news at the end of the game though as Ronaldo, continuing his return to top-flight football following his two serious knee injuries, pulled a muscle after coming on for countryman Adriano, although this is not thought to be serious, nor connected to his long-term injury problems.

City rivals Milan also eased into the next round thumping Bate Borisov 4-0.

Manuel Rui Costa and Javier Moreno struck in the first half, with defender Mohamud Sarr and Filippo Inzaghi, with a penalty, emphasising the score in the second period.

Meanwhile Parma had a nervous night in Finland, before late goals from substitutes Marco Marchionni and Emiliano Bonazzoli gave them a 2-0 victory away at HJK Helsinki, and a 3-0 aggregate win.

Marchionni hit home 11 minutes from time and Bonazzoli scored another two minutes into injury time.

Fiorentina were also held on for the lion's share of the game by Ukrainian side Dnipro but two goals within three second half minutes, despite Valiyaev's late strike for the visitors, secured a 2-1 victory, sending them through by the same score on aggregate.

Defender Daniele Adani put them infront after 75 minutes and then two minutes later Enrico Chiesa made sure of the Viola's victory.
