Cristiano Ronaldo's 400th goal in Europe's top five leagues was not enough to extend Juventus' perfect start in Serie A to nine games.

Instead, Genoa hit back through Daniel Bessa for a 1-1 draw which allowed Napoli to cut the deficit at the top of Serie A to four points with a 3-0 win at Udinese.

Ronaldo reached the landmark in the 18th minute at the Allianz Stadium, finishing from close range as Genoa goalkeeper Ionut Radu made a mess of dealing with a corner.

But Genoa enjoyed the better of the second half and got their reward after 67 minutes when Bessa headed home.

Napoli took advantage of Juve's slip with a routine win at the Dacia Arena.

Fabian Ruiz, an early replacement for injury victim Simone Verdi, opened the scoring just 14 minutes in, and Dries Mertens doubled the lead from the spot after Nicholas Opoku handled inside the area inside the final 10 minutes.

With the pressure off, Marko Rog then added a third with five minutes to go.

Meanwhile, Roma's troubles grew with a 2-0 home defeat by lowly SPAL, who finished the game with 10 men but looked comfortable all the same.

SPAL took the lead from the penalty spot after 38 minutes. Luca Pellegrini brought down Manuel Lazzari, and Andrea Petagna confidently fired home from the spot.

It was 2-0 11 minutes into the second half when Kevin Bonifazi headed home from a corner, and although Vanja Milinkovic-Savic's bizarre dismissal with 15 minutes left gave Roma hope, they could not take advantage. The SPAL keeper was booked and immediately earned a second yellow for hurling the ball away in dissent.

Defeat leaves Roma sixth, already 11 points off Juve's pace.
