Hamburg have signed defender Guy Demel from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.
The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal at the AOL Arena after passing a medical on Monday.
"Guy Demel was one of the players I really wanted to sign," commented HSV coach Thomas Doll.
"He is an absolute all-rounder, being able to play in any position across the backline and in the holding midfield role."
Demel spent four seasons at Dortmund but failed to establish himself as a first team regular under Matthias Sammer and Bert van Marwijk.
