The transfer window may be closed but the rumour mill across the continent keeps spinning as clubs plan their January moves and scouts continue to operate across Europe.

Our friends at Football Whispers have scoured the European press to bring you the best stories of the day.

Germany

Benjamin Pavard is a Real Madrid transfer target and the Spanish club have had a bid rejected by current side VfB Stuttgart. The Bundesliga club have rejected the offer, however, in an indication that they will not be bullied into a sale. Arsenal and Manchester United are also interested in the versatile 22-year-old. France

Tanguy Ndombele remains a Manchester City transfer target and the Premier League champions continue to monitor his progress. City were able to witness his talents first-hand when Lyon won at the Etihad in the Champions League this month. Pep Guardiola's side made a £45m bid for the player in the summer, and their scouts continue to watch him in the French league. The 21-year-old signed a contract with Lyon this summer, after initially being at the club on loan from Amiens. (Le 10 Sport)

Liverpool are leading the race to sign Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella. Reports suggest the Premier League club will get first refusal on the 21-year-old as part of the deal which took Estonian centre back Ragnar Klavan to Sardinia this summer. A number of sides from Italy and England are interested in the Cagliari-born Italian, including Manchester United, Juventus, AC Milan, and Chelsea. (Tuttosport)

Lorenzo Insigne has changed his agent but this does not mean a move is imminent. He will become a client of Mino Raiola this year, sparking fears at Napoli that he will look to leave the club, but reports state that the switch will make him even more difficult to sign. The move will see his release fee rise to €200m - around £178m - which means that even if he is sold, Napoli could command a huge fee. (Calciomercato)

Antonio Candreva turned down a move to Monaco in the summer as he felt he had more to prove at current club Inter. The 31-year-old revealed that he was almost part of the deal which saw Keita Balde move on loan to Inter from Monaco. "Monaco was an opportunity, but I didn't take it into consideration," he said. "I had so much to prove at Inter. I want to prove myself here and indeed I have to." (Sport Mediaset)

Juventus have their eye on free-scoring Genoa forward Krzysztof Piatek. The Poland international has 10 goals in all competitions so far, making him the first player to reach double figures in Europe's top five leagues this season. The 23-year-old was scouted personally by Genoa president Enrico Preziosi so will not be sold easily. Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the player. (Calciomercato)

Spain

Sergio Busquets has signed a new contract with Barcelona which will keep him at the club until 2023. The 30-year-old midfielder has spent 10 seasons in the first team at the Catalan club, and looks set to be around until he reaches the age of 34. His previous contract was due to expire in 2021, but Barca are eager for him to stay on their books until he decides to retire. (AS)
