Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven returned to winning ways on Saturday evening with a 3-0 home victory over VVV Venlo, who finished the match with 10 men.
The Philips Stadion expected a response after last weekend's shock 5-0 defeat at the hands of Willem II but PSV were frustrated during the first half, as the visitors looked dangerous on the counter attack.
However, a red card for Ralf Seuntjens after 58 minutes changed the course of the game and Marco van Ginkel headed the opening goal 10 minutes later.
Hirving Lozano gave PSV a cushion after 80 minutes with the second goal before Van Ginkel netted his second of the night from the penalty spot shortly afterwards to give Phillip Cocu's team a 10-point lead at the top of the table.
Towards the bottom end of the table, Willem II were unable to follow up last weekend's famous victory at FC Twente, despite leading twice.
Konstantinos Tsimikas and Sol Ortiz scored in each half to give the visitors the lead but Thomas Lam and Peet Bijen cancelled out that advantage on each occasion as it ended 2-2.
That was also the scoreline at Heerenveen after Cyriel Dessers' 88th-minute leveller earned FC Utrecht a point.
Mark van der Maarel gave the visitors the lead but goals from Morten Thorsby and Reza Ghoochannejhad turned the game on its head, before Dessers struck. It was goalless between Vitesse and Heracles Almelo.
