Third-placed Feyenoord's clash with VVV-Venlo was abandoned after less than a minute following floodlight failure at De Kuip on Sunday.

The lights went off in the first minute of the game and club staff were unable to restore power, prompting the abandonment.

Fans around the stadium tried to help by holding their phones up, but after a 30-minute wait the game was called off.

Stadium director Jan van Merwijk told Fox Sports: "We are terribly sorry, this is the biggest nightmare for a stadium director. The problem is localised but has not been fixed.

"It was somewhere in the circuit, in the control to get the lights on and off. So, it was not in the power supply, there is a back-up for that.

"This is very annoying for all the people who have come. We are disappointed, let us be clear about that. We simply could not solve it."

Elsewhere, In-form Utrecht made it five wins on the bounce and moved fifth as they brushed aside ADO Den Haag 3-0.

A superb solo run and pass from Gyrano Kerk set up Joris van Overeem to tap in and seal victory with 13 minutes remaining.

Heerenveen are still without a home win in the Eredivisie this season after Reuven Niemeijer's late goal snatched Emmen a point in the early kick-off.

Arber Zeneli's free-kick from wide on the right eluded goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen to give Heerenveen the lead on the half-hour, but Niemeijer levelled two minutes from time.

Fortuna Sittard moved above opponents PEC Zwolle and into the top 10 with a 3-0 home win. Mark Diemers scored two penalties to add to Finn Stokkers' first-half opener.
