Gattuso hits back at Domenech

Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has admitted he was 'annoyed' at helping France qualify for Euro 2008. The world champions booked their place at next summer's finals with a dramatic 2-1 win over Scotland, to end Alex McLeish's side's chances of reaching Austria and Switzerland. The win also guaranteed France's spot at the finals without playing a game and Milan midfielder Gattuso was disappointed Italy's victory helped out old foes. There has been little love lost between France coach Raymond Domenech and Italy, with Domenech saying after Italy's victory over Scotland: "At least they were useful for once." Gattuso has hit back at Domenech's jibe and is hoping to have the chance to face France at Euro 2008.

Annoyed

"I am proud of the qualification we have achieved with this squad," said the midfielder after Italy's 2-1 win in Glasgow. "But I am really annoyed because I know we also helped France to go through. "Domenech always has to say something, he doesn't deserve to go through really. "Now I hope we will play them again in the Euros and give them a lesson."
