Winger urges Republic to continue good form

Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff believes maintaining momentum in their friendlies is the key to Euro 2012 qualification. The national side were cruelly deprived of a place at this summer's World Cup after losing their play-off clash with France thanks to a Thierry Henry handball. However, the Republic have already proved they could have competed in South Africa - something illustrated again in their friendly win over Paraguay on Tuesday. The South Americans set up the clash with Giovanni Trapattoni's side in a bid to aid their preparations for the tournament, while Algeria will be doing the same on Friday. Their following friendly against Argentina in August rounds up the Republic's preparation for the Euro 2012 qualifiers and Duff is keen that they live up to their current standards. The Fulham midfielder said: "That's the idea. There are no real friendlies nowadays, they are all important games. "Hopefully we can win on Friday, carry that into the friendly in August and then the qualifiers."
