Defender also shocked by Fulham switch

Nicky Shorey has set his sights on a shock return to the England squad for the World Cup. The full-back is currently on loan at Fulham after failing to hold down a regular place in the Aston Villa side under Martin O'Neill. The former Reading ace joined Fulham on transfer deadline day after a successful loan spell at Nottingham Forest and he admits he was surprised to make the move to West London. "There's nothing worse than not playing. I really loved my time at Forest and was looking forward to going back when this move came out of nowhere," said Shorey. Shorey, who won two caps for England three years ago, has impressed at Craven Cottage and he admits he would jump at the chance of being in the England squad for this summer's World Cup finals. "I've played for England before and I enjoyed it but I'll leave that for other people to talk about. I've two caps and it's great to play for your country," added Shorey.
