Eliaquim Mangala scored a rare goal as Valencia beat Leganes 1-0 in La Liga on Tuesday night.
Mangala struck from close range after his initial header had been repelled to send Valencia 12th, a point and a place above Las Palmas.
The on-loan Manchester City defender last scored a club goal for Porto in 2013-14.
Leganes finished with 10 men at Estadio de Mestalla as Alberto was sent off.
Elsewhere, Real Betis eased their relegation fears with a 2-1 win at Malaga.
Pablo Fornals gave Malaga a half-time lead, but Jonas Martin equalised three minutes into the second half.
