Barnsley lodge formal complaint over alleged incident between Joey Barton and Daniel Stendel

Barnsley have lodged a formal complaint to the English Football League (EFL) and Football Association (FA) in relation to the alleged incident between Fleetwood Town boss Joey Barton and Daniel Stendel.

Barnsley confirmed on Sunday that manager Stendel suffered facial injuries but is 'OK' after an alleged confrontation with Fleetwood counterpart Barton.

Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton was stopped by police at Oakwell amid an investigation into an alleged assault on Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel.

South Yorkshire Police are investigating an incident which took place after Saturday's League One match at Oakwell, both clubs having been asked by the force to provide their observations and share any video footage filmed in the tunnel area.

A club statement read: "Barnsley Football Club can confirm that it has lodged a formal complaint to both the English Football League and the Football Association.

"This is following an alleged incident at the conclusion of the match on Saturday 13th April between Joey Barton and Daniel Stendel.

"The Club is also currently working with the police and assisting with all enquiries regarding the incident.
