Zlatan Ibrahimovic edged closer to the MLS history books with the opener in La Galaxy's 2-1 victory over Houston Dynamo.

Ibrahimovic set the Galaxy on their way, firing his 29th league goal on his 32nd appearance from the penalty spot on 31 minutes.

It means the Swede needs to score three more goals in his next two games - against Minnesota United and Real Salt Lake - to make the fastest career start of any player in the league.

It was not plain sailing for the hosts, though. Shortly after half-time, Alberth Elis was brought down in the area and Houston won a penalty of their own, which the Honduran converted.

But in a dramatic late twist, Diego Polenta headed in Jonathan dos Santos' corner to grab Galaxy the victory with two minutes remaining.

Toronto FC came from a goal down on two occasions to secure thrilling 4-3 victory over Minnesota United, who ended the game with nine men.

Darwin Quintero's fourth goal in six games handed Minnesota the lead on 17 minutes but two goals in two minutes from Alejandro Pozuelo put Toronto ahead on the half-hour mark.

But Jordan Hamilton inspired Toronto's second revival, scoring two goals in as many minutes before red cards for Jan Gregus and Francisco Calvo within 60 seconds ended Minnesota's hopes.

Real Salt Lake clinched their first away win of the season with a 3-0 victory at FC Cincinnati.

Former Manchester City midfielder Albert Rusnak and Sam Johnson put Real two up before half-time, with Rusnak completing the victory with his second with a penalty on the hour
