Macclesfield's players and staff say they are "disappointed and angry" after failing to receive their salaries for April.

The League Two club's players and staff have had numerous delays to the payment of their salaries, having had three consecutive months where they did not receive their wages on time.

The players and staff even considered boycotting their final game of the season against Cambridge, but decided against that measure so they could focus on ensuring the club's safety on the final day of the season.

The 1-1 draw confirmed their Football League status, and with the season over the players and staff have released a statement "with deep regret" to confirm they are still to receive their salaries for April.

The statement, signed from players and staff, said: "As players we have not asked or do we expect anything more than our agreed salaries.

"We are extremely disappointed and angry with how the club has conducted itself throughout the last few months, as we have had continued issues since January 2019 in regards to being paid on time but testament to the squad and staff we have, remained focused and professional at all times in helping this club achieve its football league status for next season.

"Last month we decided not to fulfil the Cambridge United fixture (Saturday 4/5/19) if we had not received our wages but due to the nature and importance of the game we felt we had a duty to the loyal supporters who have continued to support us through the good and bad since the first game of the season.

"During this time we have remained extremely patient and understanding in hope of some explanation but information from anyone at the club has been limited to say the least & what we have been told changes pretty much everyday.

"We have been told numerous time that we will be paid on a certain day to no prevail & the decision to release this statement has not been taken lightly and is not a response to this sole problem.
