Gunners boss eyes potential moves in transfer window

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists he knows what to do this summer to kick on ahead of next season. The Gunners have endured another campaign without a trophy as they look set to finish third in the Premier League while crashing out to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, Manchester United in the FA Cup and losing dramatically to Birmingham in the Carling Cup final. Wenger's side have produced some fine displays but the same failings keep resurfacing, with central defence regarded as an area that needs strengthening. "We have our plans and we know what we will do," said Wenger. "It is not the best moment to analyse after a disappointing game (against Stoke), but if you analyse all competitions and how we have done, the number of games we have played, then we have done well. "We have to take a little bit of distance and make the right analysis of the season." He added: "On set-pieces we have been caught and Jones didn't even have to jump to head the ball - that is something to correct. "It is the easiest thing to correct in the game, but you still must understand the flight of the ball and want to be first and have some experience. "I feel sometimes we are a bit naive."

Failure

Wenger maintains the campaign has not been a complete failure, but admits the year could have provided so much more. "Many would like to be in the Champions League but it is not enough, certainly, but the season has not been for nothing," he remarked. "It could have been a lot more, but you can see it is the toughest league in the world and we were very close, but we have to add what we miss." It remains to be seen which Arsenal players remain at the Emirates Stadium this summer with Manuel Almunia, Denilson, Nicklas Bendtner, Gael Clichy, Andrey Arshavin and Emmanuel Eboue all linked with an exit. Meanwhile, there could be another transfer saga involving Cesc Fabregas, who is once more likely to be courted by Barcelona.
