Ashley Cole was shown two yellow cards in 32 seconds during LA Galaxy's 1-1 draw with Sporting Kansas City in Sunday's MLS clash.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea defender was shown the first for what the referee deemed to be time-wasting as he took a throw-in during the 68th minute.
Seconds later, Cole launched into a tackle on Benny Feilhaber and despite protests from his Galaxy teammates, the Champions League winner was given his marching orders and shown a red card.
LA Galaxy had originally gone behind in their game at Sporting Park after a great strike from Sporting KC's Brad Davies but Giovani dos Santos - scoring his fourth goal in three Major League Soccer games - equalised 12 minutes later.
After the game, Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said: "Some days are going to look like this. To grind out and get a point here is important. We're pleased with that."
