New York City FC beat DC United 2-0 on Sunday to secure their first victory of the MLS season.

New York snapped an eight-game winless streak, dating back to the 2018 MLS playoffs.

Heber Araujo dos Santos scored and then assisted on Alexandru Mitrita's goal while Wayne Rooney missed an excellent chance to put DC ahead in the 22nd minute when he headed wide from in front of goal.

Elsewhere, Carlos Vela scored twice as Los Angeles FC beat Seattle Sounders 4-1 to hand the Sounders their first loss of the season.

Vela now leads MLS with 10 goals and is tied for the assists lead at five with Toronto FC's Alejandro Pozuelo.
