Italian defender to miss Aston Villa clash
Newcastle United will be without the services of full-back Davide Santon for their Premier League game against Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.
The 20-year-old hurt his knee on the training ground on Thursday morning and after undergoing a scan has been rendered unfit for the Magpies' match at Villa Park.
"Unfortunately, David has hurt his knee this morning," revealed manager Alan Pardew. "He's going for a scan today. That's not good news for us.
"He's having a scan on what looks like a possible cartilage [injury]. His knee looked a little bit unhealthy after training today.
"It's an injury he's had previously, so I think it's very wise that the doctor and his team have had him scanned today to make sure.
"I'm not actually sure of the mechanics of it [how it occurred]. It's very important he has a good start at this football club, so we want to make sure he's 100 per cent."
Santon, who joined Newcastle from Italian giants Inter Milan in the summer, will now have to wait for his senior debut. The Italian played 70 minutes for the reserve team in their 6-0 defeat of Norwich on Tuesday afternoon.
