Belgian keeper looking to spend second season in Spain
Thibaut Courtois has reiterated his desire to spend a second season with Atletico Madrid, and he has informed Chelsea of his wish.
The Belgian keeper signed for the Blues over the summer, but was aware that they had snapped him up with one eye on the future.
With the route to the Stamford Bridge first-team blocked, he was sent out on loan to Atletico
His spell in Spain has allowed him to get vital experience under his belt, with Chelsea keen to see him moulded into Petr Cech's long-term successor.
The 19-year-old appreciates that he has some way to go before he reaches that level and is reluctant to head back to Chelsea to warm their bench.
Experience
For that reason, he is hoping the Premier League title challengers will agree to let him stay on in Spain.
He has held talks with Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas regarding the matter, with the Portuguese tactician set to have the final say.
"I am very happy at Atletico and I am living a good experience," Courtois told
Marca.
"I would like to stay here one more year and I said this to Chelsea's manager on Sunday."
Courtois has made 23 appearances for Atletico this season, helping to fill the void created by David de Gea's summer switch to Manchester United.
