Two goals from Arek Milik helped Ajax to a 3-0 victory over Excelsior and moved back to within a point of Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven.
The Poland international put Ajax ahead four minutes before the interval and lashed home a second in the 55th minute to take his tall for the season to 14.
Midfielder Davy Klaassen (85) drilled in a late third to round off a comfortable win for Frank de Boer's side.
Ruud Boymans hit his fifth goal in eight league appearances for FC Utrecht as his brace secured them a 2-1 home win against Willem II.
Bartholomew Ogbeche's 77th-minute penalty, after he had been fouled by Robbin Ruiter, cancelled out Boymans' 32nd-minute opener but the Utrecht striker fired home the winner with five minutes remaining.
Feyenoord halted a seven-game losing streak but are now without a win in nine league matches after being held 1-1 at home against Roda JC.
Former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt headed home Bilal Basacikoglu's free-kick to give Feyenoord the lead just before half-time, but Maecky Ngombo equalised with a low shot from inside the penalty area in the 69th minute.
Second-bottom De Graafschap closed the gap on 16th-placed Excelsior to five points after drawing 2-2 at home against Vitesse Arnhem.
De Graafschap were heading for their first win in four going into the last six minutes after two goals from Vincent Vermeij either side of half-time had cancelled out Vitesse midfielder Marvelous Nakamba's 16th-minute opener.
But on-loan Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker equalised with an 84th-minute free-kick to clinch a point for Vitesse, who had Japanese defender Kosuke Ota sent off in the closing stages for his second bookable offence.
