Michael Owen is eager to stay at Man Utd and plans to discuss his future after the Champions League final.

Striker has enjoyed his two seasons playing at Old Trafford

Michael Owen is eager to stay at Manchester United and plans to discuss his future with Sir Alex Ferguson after the UEFA Champions League final. The 31-year-old secured his first Premier League title this season after making 11 appearances en route to United's record-breaking 19th top-flight crown. He has spent the past two seasons at Old Trafford, but has yet to learn whether he will be offered a new contract by Ferguson. Owen is battling to earn a spot on the bench for Saturday's showdown with Barcelona, while his prospects of securing a new deal could be hindered by the return of Danny Welbeck from a loan spell at Sunderland. However, the former Liverpool striker intends to speak with United manager Ferguson after this weekend's showpiece and would love to hear some good news.

Fantastic club

"I want to stay because Manchester United is a fantastic club," said Owen. "I have to find out in the coming week or two and I will be speaking to the manager. "This is an important week so there is no point discussing my future with him now, but we will have a chat after the season is over." Owen has scored 13 goals in 47 appearances for United, the majority of which have been from the bench, but he insists he has enjoyed his time at the club. "You can drop your level and play more regularly in a team that is not of as high a standard as Manchester United," observed Owen. "But your level stays high when you are training with top players and you enjoy your football much more when you are playing in a good team. "It depends which side of the coin you look at. "I have certainly enjoyed my time here even though I haven't played as much this year and I have still felt part of it. "I have played in 11 Premier League games and qualified for a medal and loved every minute of it."
