RAYO TARGET DUO FOR SUMMER RAID

RAYO VALLECANO, currently enjoying arguably the best season in their history, are already beginning to cast an eye over potential targets to add to their squad in the summer, when TV contract money will give them more spending power.

Coach Juande Ramos, currently in his third season in charge, has already earmarked several players to bring in to the side who currently lie sixth in the Primera Liga.

The coach, who since taking over has guided Rayo into the Primera Liga and the Uefa cup Fourth round, has already short-listed a goalkeeper and midfielder as he aims to take Rayo further still.

Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Imanol Etxeberria (pictured) is the first name on the list, as the former Lleida coach faces the possibility of losing American star Kasey Keller in the summer.

The former Millwall and Leicester goalkeeper, who has only participated in Uefa cup games this season, will be out of contract in the summer, and it appears that he will leave the club.

Etxeberria, who is 27, played 26 games for the Bilbao club last season and will be out of contract in the summer, is seen by Ramos as the perfect replacement for the American.

The former Barcelona "B" coach has also short-listed Ceuta midfielder Daniel Platero, as he aims to strengthen his side further.

The 23-year-old playmaker is seen as the perfect recruit to organise the Rayo engine room, the central midfielder was one of the stars as his side, Ceuta, knocked Primera Liga Malaga out of the Copa del Rey 3-2, before eventually crashing out to Barcelona in the following round.
