PARMA CONFIRM UNITED'S THURAM OFFER

PARMA'S official in charge of transfers, Enrido Fedele, has confirmed that the Serie A side has received offers from Real Madrid and Manchester United for their defensive star Lilian Thuram.

Sources in Spain believe that, whilst Barcelona and Real Madrid have both stated their desire to shore up their defences, Thuram could be a little too expensive for them, with the Liga giants preferring to invest vast sums in more attacking players.

This would appear to leave the way clear for a straight fight between The Red Devils, who have made an official bid for the player, and Juventus, who are also believed to be interested in the 29-year-old, with another option being that the domineering defender stays with Parma.

When asked about Thuram, Fedele replied: "There have been requests from great foreign clubs.

"Not only from Madrid, also from others like Manchester United."

The World Cup winner's agent Oscar Damiani has hinted his client would like to play for Real, although it would appear he was asked rather a leading question by a Spanish radio station.

"Thuram loves Real Madrid because he thinks it is one of the strongest teams in the world and he is a player who desires to win something," Damiani declared.

"All clubs which have been mentioned are top level clubs and that's good for Thuram.

"The problem is the agreement with Parma because the player thinks more of winning titles than of money."

Fedele, meanwhile, also set out his club's transfer policy, stating that Fabio Cannavaro and keeper Gianluigi Buffon were 'intransferable'.

This was in response to Barcelona making 'an important offer' for Buffon as the Catalans look to strengthen their goalkeeping depth.

Reports from Italy indicated that Sergio Cragnotti's relationship with the Tanzi family could see Cannavaro leave the club for Rome but Fedele's stance will quash these rumours.

When asked about Parma's transfer targets, Roma's Hidetoshi Nakata and Brazilian Zago were mentioned, as well as the re-signing of Buffon.

Fedele said: "Nakata I consider a great player, but he is not our high-priority objective. In his position we have the Frenchman Johan Micoud and we do not forget the young Colombian Johnnier Montano."
