DURKIN: SENDING OFF WAS RIGHT

REFEREE Paul Durkin has defended his decision to issue Giovanni van Bronckhorst his marching orders in Arsenal's victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

The Dutch midfielder received a second yellow card with Durkin claiming the star dived to win a penalty kick.

"I felt he was trying to deceive me, trying to get a penalty," explained Durkin.

When asked whether he was 100 percent sure the decision was correct Durkin replied 'absolutely'.

"I am very confident I got it right."

Durkin also backed his decision not to caution Reds goalkeeper after the Pole brought down Freddie Ljungberg in the penalty area.

"The challenge was careless more than anything. Not every challenge deserves a yellow or red card," added the official.
