Duxbury blasts Latics owner

NEW Bury signing Lee Duxbury has blasted Oldham Athletic owner Chris Moore for causing serious damage to the Division Two club.

Duxbury quit The Latics on Thursday and moved up the road to the Gigg Lane outfit on a two-year deal, becoming another former Oldham player to take a more secure offer elsewhere.

The Boundary Park club have been hovering on the verge of extinction since Moore's decision not to bankroll the club, which was recording around £50,000-a-week in losses.

Despite club officials being close to a deal to handing Oldham Athletic over to a Norwegian consortium, Duxbury fears that Moore's actions have had irreparable damage to the Second Division outfit and that events have taken its toll on manager Iain Dowie's squad.

"I am very sad with what has happened and very disappointed in the way that Chris Moore has gone about the situation," Duxbury told BBC Greater Manchester Radio.

"Last season Iain Dowie (Oldham manager) did a great job. We got a good team together and just missed out on going into the play-off final.

"We were just thinking 'Okay, we will build again' and then Chris Moore has pulled the rug out from under Iain's feet, the club's feet, the players' feet and everything.

"He has sold players behind Iain's back and is just destroying the footballing side.

"What he has done to the club is just unacceptable."

Moore's actions have caused Latics supporters to vent their frustrations at the club's owner, with a statement on the club's official website confirming that he has received death threats by phone and e-mail from unknown individuals.
