Jenas signs new deal
The midfielder was billed as a player for the future when Sir Bobby Robson paid Nottingham Forest £5 million for his services in February 2002.
However, Jenas' consistent displays forced Robson to thrust him into the first team and he has continued to impress.
England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has included him in recent internationals, prompting The Magpies to reward the 20-year-old for his efforts.
Jenas has signed a new deal which ties him to the Tyneside giants for the next five years.
The midfielder, an ever-present for The Magpies this term, has expressed delight at pledging his future to Newcastle.
"Moving to Newcastle United 18 months ago has proved to be a terrific career move for me," he told the club's website.
"This is a fantastic club and a marvellous place to play your football.
"I hope over the next five years we can build on our success over the last two seasons and I am looking forward to being involved with a strong and successful team.
"I would also like to thank the fans who have given me fantastic support since I joined the club."
