WOLVES 1 LIVERPOOL 1

Kenny Miller's last-gasp goal earned battling Wolves a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Molineux to put another dent in Gerard Houllier's side's Champions League hopes.

Liverpool looked set for all three points courtesy of Bruno Cheyrou's first half goal until Miller popped up in stoppage time to earn Wolves a share of the spoils with his second goal in two games.

Liverpool started brightly and Emile Heskey went close to opening the scoring on six minutes when the ball fell nicely to him inside the box, but Oakes did well to push out his volley.

Seconds later Wolves moved the ball down the other end of the pitch and Jerzy Dudek had to be brave to bravely block at the feet of Steffen Iversen after he broke clear of the Liverpool defence.

Liverpool were beginning to get a hold of the game in midfield and Dietmar Hamann, Heskey and Cheyrou all had efforts of goal as Wolves struggled to get out of their own half.

Michael Owen almost made the breakthrough on 32 minutes when he burst past Paul Butler and Alex Rae inside the area, but Oakes stayed big to push the striker's shot.

The visitors finally made the breakthrough two minutes before the break when Cheyrou latched onto a long ball from Steve Finnan controlling the ball on his chest before coolly lifting the ball over Oakes with his right-foot.

Wolves came out in determined fashion in the second half making some flying tackles to try and knock Liverpool out of their rhythm and Lee Naylor forced Dudek into a comfortable save with a free kick from fully 30 yards.

Reds captain Steven Gerrard came close to grabbing a second for Liverpool on 53minutes with a superb strike from 25 yards, but Oakes at full stretch was able to keep out his strike.

Iversen missed a glorious opportunity to draw Wolves level on 66 minutes when Miller flicked Colin Cameron's cross into his path six yards out, but the Norwegian somehow scooped his shot over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.

Owen had two chances in the space of three minutes to add to Liverpool's lead with a header from substitute Danny Murphy's cross which lacked the power to beat Oakes and then when he lost control of the ball with only Oakes to beat after being put clear by Jamie Carragher.

With Wolves pushing forward in search of an equaliser Liverpool were finding more and more spaces in the home side's defence an Murphy blazed over on 86 minutes from Kewell's pass and then he struck the post from eight yards after Owen had brilliantly set him up.

Wolves threw everything into attack in the dying moments and were rewarded when Miller got on the end of Ince's flick on to clinically fire his left-footed volley past Jerzy Dudek.
