Shrimpers want Dudfield back

Southend United have reportedly tabled a bid to Division Three rivals Northampton Town for striker Lawrie Dudfield.

The 23-year-old recently ended a successful month-long loan spell with The Shrimpers before returning to The Sixfields Stadium.

Despite the expectation that Dudfield will likely appear for The Cobblers at Boston United on Saturday, Roots Hall chairman Ron Martin is hoping to land the former Hull City marksman by the end of the week.

"I have spoken to Lawrie's agent about signing him until the end of next season," Martin told BBC Essex.

"We've made a proposal via his agent to Northampton but unless that transaction is concluded to allow him to play for us on Saturday, then the deal is off."
