Woody focused on Real

Jonathan Woodgate is focusing on Real Madrid before turning his attention to England.

Injury prone Jonathan Woodgate is focusing on performing consistently for Real Madrid before turning his attention to making an international return with England.

Woodgate is back to full fitness after spending the summer training with former club Leeds and has featured in all three of Real's pre-season clashes.

The former Newcastle stopper is rated as one of the top defensive talents available to Steve McClaren, but wants to play regularly for Los Galacticos before worrying about England.

However, Woodgate could be given an early chance under new Three Lions boss McClaren next month with Ledley King on the sidelines and Sol Campbell's future unclear.

"I'm feeling good right now," explained Woodgate. "I don't know if I am in the thoughts of Steve McClaren or not right now.

"I think the key thing for me now is to show I can stay injury free, because when I play I back my own ability against anybody.

"All I can do is play games for Real Madrid and if I am doing that then hopefully people will see me."
