Former Scottish Football League president Brown McMaster dies

Former Scottish Football League president Brown McMaster has died following a long illness.

The former Partick Thistle chairman lead the governing body for two years before standing down due to health problems.

In a statement on its official website, the SPFL said: "Everyone at the SPFL was saddened to learn of the death of Brown McMaster after a long battle with cancer.

"Brown was president of the Scottish Football League between 2007 and 2009 and was associated with Partick Thistle for almost 20 years, serving as chairman on two separate occasions.

"A passionate football man, he also spent time on the board of Stenhousemuir later in his career.

"Our thoughts go out to his family and close friends at this difficult time."

And Thistle paid tribute to McMaster, saying: "Over an almost 20-year period, Brown not only served as a director and vice-chairman, but was also chairman on two separate occasions.

"In his first spell at the helm of the club, Brown led Thistle through one of the most difficult times in its history during the Save the Jags campaign.

"Brown was a passionate football man and, in addition to his time at Thistle, spent two-and-a-half years as president of the Scottish Football League.

"The thoughts of everyone at Partick Thistle Football Club are with Brown's family and friends, especially his wife, Jean, and his children, Scott, Craig, Jill and John."
