Pompey boss refusing to rush new recruit
Portsmouth boss Paul Hart has warned that new signing Aruna Dindane will not be rushed into action.
The Ivorian has moved to Fratton Park on loan from French outfit Lens, but he is carrying a knee injury.
The problem kept him sidelined for much of last season and Hart is wary of risking him too soon.
Pompey need all the firepower they can find, after making a torrid start to the 2009/10 campaign, but they must be patient before unleashing their new hit-man on English football.
"Dindane has trained but he hasn't played that much, so he is going to have to get some fitness in," Hart told
The News.
"He has not played for a while, but looked sharp in little bursts. He knows his own body but he knows he needs to do some work.
"I don't know if he'll play this month. We've got to be conservative with a player who hasn't played for quite a while. You can't just stick him into a game because there are different stresses and strains.
"He's got a good pedigree in France and Ivory Coast. He is a handful. You need more than three strikers in the Premier League and we've now got five."
