Andy Holt earned Northampton a 1-1 draw with a second-half equaliser to maintain their unbeaten run against Burton.
And Cobblers almost snatched all three points in stoppage time when substitute Kevin Thornton's 30-yard free kick hit the underside of the bar.
The woodwork had twice denied Northampton before Holt cancelled out Shaun Harrad's opener.
Billy McKay, Holt and Courtney Herbert all went close in the first half for Northampton, while Harrad was denied by Chris Dunn at the other end.
Harrad opened the scoring in the 53rd minute when he turned and volleyed home from 15 yards with a clinical finish.
McKay hit the underside of the bar 10 minutes later and Luke Guttridge shaved a post with an 86th minute free kick. Two minutes later Holt converted a cross from substitute, Paul Rodgers, and Thornton almost won it in stoppage time.
