Northampton boss Keith Curle could have John-Joe O'Toole, Sam Foley and Dean Bowditch available for selection when they host Colchester.
The trio have been sidelined because of injury recently but are nearing their playing returns, and Curle is hopeful that at least two of those three will be fit enough to be involved against the Us. Shaun McWilliams and George Cox are doubtful after missing last week's 1-1 draw with Morecambe, having suffered knocks in the defeat at Cambridge last month.
Northampton signed former Watford and Bolton striker Marvin Sordell as well as central defender Charlie Goode on loan deals on transfer deadline day and both could be included in Curle's matchday squad.
Callum Roberts, Ben Stevenson and Abo Eisa could feature for Colchester following their moves to the club this week. Forward Roberts joined on loan from Newcastle on deadline day for the rest of the season.
Stevenson returned to the club he had spent time on loan at last season when the midfielder completed a permanent switch from Wolves on Wednesday. And the day before that, winger Eisa arrived on loan from Shrewsbury.
Northampton won the reverse fixture in August 2018 (1-2), ending a run of three consecutive league defeats against Colchester.
Colchester have won five of their previous seven league games against Northampton (L2), averaging two goals per game.
Northampton are unbeaten in their last 11 league games at home (W4 D7) - their longest such run within a single season since April 2016 (run of 12 which saw them promoted to League One).
Colchester have alternated between a win and a loss in each of their last seven away league games, losing their most recent encounter against Crewe (2-1).
Northampton manager Keith Curle, will face Colchester with his fourth Football League team, having done so with Carlisle, Notts County and Mansfield previously - he has won four of his seven such encounters (D1 L2).
Colchester are the only side in the top four tiers of English Football yet to score a headed goal in the league this season.
