    Northampton v Shrewsbury preview

Image: Akinfenwa: Set to return for Cobblers

Adebayo Akinfenwa is set to return for Northampton, while Shrewsbury are likely to have the same squad available as last time.

Cobblers set to be boosted by Akinfenwa return

Northampton are set to be boosted by the return of Adebayo Akinfenwa for the home clash with fellow play-off hopefuls Shrewsbury. The Cobblers have suffered three 1-0 defeats in a row since Akinfenwa limped out of the goalless draw with Torquay on Easter Monday with an ankle injury but manager Ian Sampson is confident of having his talisman back. Despite those three defeats, 11th placed Northampton are still only three points short of the top seven and could return to the play-off places with a win against the 12th placed Shrews, who are a point behind the Cobblers. Captain Craig Hinton returns from a one-match suspension but Luke Guttridge is out as he serves the second of a three-game ban. Andy Holt should return to the wing after filling in at centre-back at Rochdale last weekend while goalkeeper Chris Dunn will have to make do with a place on the bench after recovering from his knee injury. Stephen O'Flynn (groin) is still out.

    Shrews news

Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson is likely to have the same squad at his disposal as he did for last Saturday's 1-0 win over Lincoln. Benjamin Van den Broek recovered from a tight hamstring to take his place on the bench against the Imps while several players shook off the effects of a sickness bug to take to the field, and are again available for selection. Midfielder Craig Disley (broken ankle) returned to training on Thursday after his lengthy absence, while captain Graham Coughlan (thigh) and striker Jake Robinson (ligament damage) are expected to make their comebacks on Monday. All three could get some minutes under their belts for the reserves next week, with their chances of being involved before the end of the season heavily depending on whether Town make the play-offs. Nathan Elder was due back from his loan spell at AFC Wimbledon over the weekend with a view to being available for the closing stages of the campaign, but the striker has suffered medial ligament damage to a knee and is expected to be out for a couple of weeks.
