    Notts Co v Huddersfield preview

    Image: Johnson: Set for debut

Notts County have plenty of selection posers as Damien Johnson gets set for his Huddersfield debut.

Short has plenty of options as Terriers line up debuts for new signings

Manager Craig Short faces plenty of selection posers as Notts County prepare to begin life in League One at home to Huddersfield. The former Magpies defender, who replaced Steve Cotterill at the Meadow Lane helm at the start of June, must choose between Rob Burch and Stuart Nelson in goal following the summer departure of Kasper Schmeichel. County's third keeper, David Grof, who signed a one-year deal last week, has joined Tamworth on a month's loan. Short also has options at centre-back with new signings Krystian Pearce and Liam Chilvers providing competition for Mike Edwards and Graeme Lee. Ben Burgess and last season's top scorer Lee Hughes are likely to start in attack, although there is strong competition from Karl Hawley and the recently-signed Kevin Smith and Jake Jervis.

    Huddersfield news

Damien Johnson is expected to go straight into Huddersfield's squad for their League One opener at Meadow Lane. Johnson signed on a season-long loan from Plymouth Argyle with a view to a permanent move on Thursday. The former Northern Ireland international joins a plethora of new midfield recruits at the Galpharm Stadium. Joey Gudjonsson, Scott Arfield, Graham Carey and Lee Croft could all make their debuts. Nathan and Tom Clarke will miss out with knee injuries and striker Lee Novak is still short of match fitness after his pre-season was disrupted with a similar problem. The absence of the Clarke brothers from the back-line will be offset by the prospect of debuts for Gary Naysmith and Jamie McCombe while on-loan Nottingham Forest forward Joe Garner is likely to fill the void left by Novak. Full-back Lee Peltier was an absentee for last weekend's friendly with Scunthorpe due to muscle tightness but is expected to play.
