Oldham v Carlisle preview
Last Updated: 05/10/18 11:29am
Oldham hope to have top-scorer Sam Surridge back for their Sky Bet League Two clash with Carlisle at Boundary Park.
Surridge, who is on loan from Bournemouth, missed the last two matches because of a hip injury. And the Latics were unable to score in the absence of Surridge, who has netted seven times this term.
Midfielder Jordan Lyden is close to making his comeback from a thigh injury that has kept him out all season.
Carlisle midfielder Jamie Devitt is a doubt because of the suspected shin injury sustained against Grimsby on Tuesday. Striker Richie Bennett and goalkeeper Luke O'Reilly could also miss out because of their respective groin injury and illness.
Forward Jerry Yates returns after serving a two-match ban following his red card for swearing at officials. Defender Danny Grainger is still some way off returning.
This will be the first meeting between Oldham and Carlisle in the fourth tier of English football since the 1961-62 season, with each of the last 32 Football League encounters since then being in the third tier or above.
Oldham have won both of their last two league meetings with Carlisle (both in the 2013-14 League one season); the Latics have never beaten them in three straight meetings in the Football League.
Oldham have drawn three consecutive league games for the second time in 2018 (drawing five in a row in April) - Scunthorpe (16) are the only side to have drawn more league games across the top four tiers of English football in 2018 (15).
Carlsile have lost each of their last two league games without scoring - the last time they lost three on the bounce without finding the back of the net came in March 2017 (four straight defeats without scoring, during a run of seven games without a win or a goal).
Oldham's Jose Baxter has scored three goals in his four league appearances against Carlisle; against no other side has he netted more in the Football League.
