Leeds' promotion hopes dented after first away defeat

Leeds United slumped to their first away defeat of the season, going down 2-0 at Peterborough. Second half goals from George Boyd and Craig Mackail-Smith saw Leeds' six-game winning streak ended. The omens were bad for the visitors when goalkeeper Dave Lucas broke a finger in the warm-up, being replaced by Casper Ankergren. And the giant goalkeeper had to be at his best to make a terrific early save from Mackail-Smith. The visitors looked lively in the first period, strikers Luciano Becchio and Jermaine Beckford going close. But that all changed within a minute of the restart as Posh took the lead with a controversial strike. Former Stevenage player Boyd finished from close range after winger Dominic Green drilled a deep Russell Martin delivery back across the danger area. Posh had a lucky escape nine minutes from time when Becchio saw a leveller wiped out for offside and things only got worse for the Yorkshire side when Mackail-Smith condemned them to a first away defeat. Another Martin cross and Boyd lay-off led to the midfielder sealing the points in the final minute.
