Portsmouth's Joe Devera bounced back from a defensive howler with a delightful low drive to net the Blues a 3-2 win over Stevenage. The visitors went ahead in the 23rd minute when Dean Wells volleyed home Darius Charles' knockdown in the Pompey box. Jed Wallace levelled the scores in the 34th minute when Stevenage failed to clear their lines from a corner. Portsmouth boss Andy Awford was seething when referee Mick Russell waved away claims that Stevenage keeper Chris Day handled outside his box eight minutes before the break. Boro came inches from taking the lead when Chris Whelpdale's 25-yard drive cannoned back off the post. Pompey made it 2-1 just seconds later when Miles Storey raced on to Danny Hollands' ball over the top and finished superbly. The Blues threw away their advantage in the 75th minute when Devera's tame header back to goalkeeper Paul Jones fell to Chris Beardsley, who equalised. But Devera atoned in style by putting Pompey 3-2 up with a stunning low drive through a crowded box with 11 minutes to go to end his side's six-game run without a win.
