Rochdale boss Keith Hill could name an unchanged side for the fourth successive match when Colchester visit Spotland.
Hill has fielded the same starting line-up in every game so far this season and has no injuries or suspensions to contend with.
However, summer signing Anthony Elding is pushing for a starting role after he came off the bench to score the winner against Barnsley in the Carling Cup before another instrumental role as a substitute in last weekend's 2-2 draw at Brighton.
Highly-rated defender Craig Dawson has played every minute so far this season but continues to be linked with a move away from Spotland.
Rochdale have twice turned down transfer requests from the player over the summer following a £400,000 bid from Middlesbrough.
Colchester's trip to Rochdale will come too soon for goalkeeper Ben Williams.
The Us' regular No.1 has resumed light training following the ankle injury he suffered during pre-season but will not be ready to travel to Spotland so Mark Cousins keeps his place.
Striker Steven Gillespie was also a pre-season casualty with a twisted ankle and remains on the sidelines along with long-term absentees John-Joe O'Toole and Morten Knudsen.
Midfielder O'Toole is continuing his recovery from the cruciate injury he suffered back in April and defender Knudsen is still missing with a knee injury, with neither due back much before Christmas.
Frontman Kayode Odejayi pushed his claims for a start with a goal for the reserves in midweek.
