Rotherham fourth after welcome win while Northampton slip to 10th

Rotherham got their play-off push back on track with a 1-0 win over fellow hopefuls Northampton. Adam Le Fondre converted a 65th-minute penalty to end the Miller's four-match losing streak on a night that saw three players sent off at the Don Valley Stadium. Defences were on top throughout in the first period and the only real chance fell to the visitors after 35 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. Pablo Mills earned himself a booking for his trip on Luke Guttridge but Ryan Gilligan's spot-kick was too close to Andy Warrington, who made a vital save. John Johnson brought another good save out of the Millers keeper 10 minutes after the break, but Rotherham went ahead from the second penalty of the evening.

Le Fondre spot-kick

The Cobblers' skipper Craig Hinton was sent off for his challenge on Le Fondre and the Millers' top scorer picked himself up to fire in his 28th of the season from the spot. In the 76th minute, the visitors were reduced to nine men and Rotherham to 10 when Danny Harrison was sent off for a rash tackle and Northampton midfielder Guttridge was dismissed for his retaliation.
